Janie Ruth Higdon
January 16, 1950 - September 4, 2021

Saturday, September 4, 2021 Janie Higdon, loving wife and mother of three children, passed away at the age of 71. She was the proud, picture-sharing grandma to 17 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
While it’s difficult to put 71 years into a few paragraphs, Janie was a devoted wife, mother to her children, and friend and mentor to many. Her passions were cooking, sewing, and reading a good book. She loved to bake and was an excellent homemaker. You could walk into her home at any time and feel welcome. Anyone that walked into her kitchen knew that if they stuck their hand in the cookie jar, there was a 99[[][[]][[][[]]][[][[]][[][%]]]] chance of something being in there. If she knew you were coming, you would probably smell your favorite baking in the oven. Janie often would cook a meal, and if someone stopped by, offer them food, never mentioning that she was giving up her portion of the meal to feed them. She always said there was plenty, and she made it so. A hard worker, Janie would not sit down unless there was a machine in the house going, cleaning something. She loved to sew, and as her health declined, would sew clothes that were currently too large for her young granddaughters, so that she could have it finished by the time they grew. When reading a book, she would sometimes forget that the characters were fiction and would begin to pray for their calamities.
Janie enjoyed serving both the people around her and her Lord. She was invested in the lives of others. If she knew about the things happening in your life, you would be asked about it later, and you could be sure she prayed about the situation. Together with her husband, Janie fostered 13 youth, treating them as her own. She also served as a pastor's wife for many years. Everyone knew not to call at 10 AM because that was her prayer time. She would often read ahead on her daily bible reading, so that she wouldn’t get behind during illnesses or hospital stays. Nurses, doctors, and home health workers walked away from her having heard of God's goodness and faithfulness.
While we will cherish these memories and mourn her loss, we are comforted in knowing that she is now at her final destination, free of the cares and pains of this life, resting peacefully with the Lord.
