OBITUARY LARRY JOE STROUD 1931-2020
Longtime Livingston resident, Larry (aka “Sonny”) Stroud passed away peacefully December 20, 2020 holding the hand of his significant other and loving companion, Shirley Koenig. He had struggled over the last year with frailty and memory loss and just recently was able to celebrate his 89th birthday with family and friends.
He was born in Port Arthur Texas to Bertha Broussard Stroud and Lawrence J. Stroud November 8, 1931. He was known for his mischievous nature, always smiling/happy, and good sense of humor. He personified the typical “Dennis-the-menace”.
In 1950, he graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, Port Arthur which followed with an electrical engineering degree from Lamar University in Beaumont. This degree took him to Jefferson Chemical and various other work businesses in Texas particularly in Corpus Christi.
Known as a man who just couldn’t sit still, he had many interests: carpentry, sailing, hunting, car collecting, VFW membership/activities, and traveling extensively in his RV or on world cruises. One of the loves of his life was Peaches and Cherry his small poodles.
His first marriage was to Carol McCutchin who they proudly welcomed children, Susan and Steve Stroud.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence Stroud and Bertha Stroud, sister, Muriel Stroud Hawkins and son Steve Stroud. Family members are daughter Susan Stroud Leseman (Eufalia, OK), grandson, Cory Thompson, wife Alexis, great grandchildren Oliver and Sienna (Little Elm TX); nieces, Connie Bricker (Rockwall, TX), Charlene Hollier (Lufkin) and Barbara Cutler (Willis, TX); cousins Claire Norman & Linda Wenger (both from Williamsburg, VA), Louis Carpenter (Dallas), & Jeff Jolet (New Iberia, LA); great-neices Debbie Conner (Austin) & Melissa Bricker(Rowlett), great-nephews Steve Cutler(Rockwall), Terry Bricker (Aubrey,TX), John Cutler(Denver, CO).
Larry had many friends in the places he lived:Groves, Corpus Christi and would keep in touch with visits and humorous emails.
