Walter Steve Genenwein
January 14, 1943 - February 22, 2023

Walter Steve Genenwein was born January 14, 1943, in McAllen, Texas to Edward W. and Mary Alton (Miller) Genenwein. He passed from this life on February 22, 2023, in Livingston, Texas at the age of 80.
Steve was an avid gardener, sprouting, grafting, and growing numerous varieties of unique plants. His garden was one of his happy places, his passion and where he was most at home. He enjoyed gifting friends, family, and neighbors with plants that he had carefully cultivated. Additional passions included his exemplary wood-working skills and being a pioneer in designing unconventional and quirky out-of-the-box ways to repurpose common items. Steve was a dedicated son, and an exceptional student. He graduated from Pharr-San Juan-Alamo (PSJA) High School in Pharr, Texas, followed by attending and graduating from Baylor, Moody Bible Institute, and then for a time, attending Westminster Theological Seminary. However, more important to him than any of his academic achievements was his devotion to exploring and understanding the intricacies of the man-made and God-given innovations and creations around him.
Steve and Gaye were married 54 years. He loved God and his family, and was a supportive father of four daughters, as well as a fun-loving, spontaneous, and generous grandfather. He was often ready to entertain those around him with a captivating story, a prank, clever songs, and his warm, but mischievous smile.
He devoted much of his time to thoughtfully understanding scripture and discerning how to apply his personal convictions to life. Despite being a brilliant creator himself, he was a humble man and he fully grasped that even the smallest life-form carries great value and influence in the world around us.
Steve is survived by his mother, Mary Genenwein; loving wife, Gaye Genenwein; daughters, Loren L. Bray & husband Robert, Cindy L. Nichols & husband Noah, Karen K. Spurgeon & husband Mark, Bethany A. Evans & husband Waylon; sister, Lexi L. Genenwein; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and one on the way; as well as many other loved ones and host of friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Edward W. Genenwein.
