Shila Battise, born August 31, 1933 to Matthew Mathis Bullock & Bessie Anise Poncho Bullock & Special Mother, Carolyn Poncho Bullock, passed away on February 6, 2018 in Livingston, Texas, at the age of 84 years.
She attended and graduated from Dallardsville Big Sandy High School in 1952, where she was a District Basketball player under Dr. Coach Thomas Foster. Shila attended Oklahoma Presbyterian College for a year studying bookkeeping. She married the late Mikko Atokla Colabe Tuklo Emmett Battise on March 24, 1956 and lived in New Summerfield & Rusk, Texas where her husband had taught and coached. Shila worked as a bookkeeper for Maria Brassiere in Jacksonville, Texas, Leo W. Tosh Insurance Company & Rusk Federal Savings & Loan in Rusk, Texas, CETA on the Alabama -Coushatta Indian Reservation, and Jasper Federal Savings & Loan in Livingston, Texas where she retired. She played softball and loved watching all kinds of sports! She loved the Goodrich Hornets, Big Sandy Wildcats, Texas A&M Aggies, Houston Astros, Houston Oilers (during the Bum Phillips era), Houston Texans, Houston Comets, Houston Rocket,(during the Sam Cassell, Robert Horry, Clyde Drexler, & Hakeem Olajawaun era), and San Antonio Spurs! She was an organist and pianist for the Indian Presbyterian Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers, Morris R. Bullock and William N. Bullock, and grandmother, Maggie Poncho.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra Lynn Battise-Kleinman; her granddaughter, Krista Lynn Langley & husband, Troy Langley; her great granddaughters, Katahnah Kaylynn Langley and Teagan Kamora Langley, all of the Alabama-Coushatta Reservation; and numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
She taught her family the importance of taking care of a home, always valuing family first, and having a strong faith in God! The family wishes to give special thanks to Embracing Care and Affinity Hospice for all the care and hope they gave to Shila and her loved ones!
Wake Services and Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Pace Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas.
Celebration of Shila’s Life will begin at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2018 with a Visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. prior to Service casket will be closed at 2:00 p.m. and remain closed at the Indian Presbyterian Church in Livingston, Texas with Reverend David Brewer, ESQ will be officiating. Interment to follow at the Indian Reservation Cemetery.
