Cleo “Pee Wee” Purvis, age 81, was born January 12, 1936, in Corrigan, Texas and passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017 at his residence in Corrigan, Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife, Freddie Jo Purvis; parents, Byrd and Doris Purvis; son, Dewayne Ferrell Purvis; grandson, Joseph Michael Purvis; brothers, Milton Purvis, Buddy Purvis; sisters, Margaret Nell Lerma. Cleo is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Edmond Purvis & wife, Tonia of Corrigan, Texas, Terrill Purvis of Peoria, Illinois, Kevin Purvis & wife, Kim of Corrigan, Texas, Howard Purvis & wife, Lanora of New Caney, Texas; grandchildren, Amber Purvis Dempsey, DeWayne Purvis, Wesley Purvis, Ian Purvis, Adam Purvis, Evan Purvis, Alexis Purvis, Dylan Purvis, Zack Purvis, Brooke Skinner, Taylor Purvis, Kolton Purvis, Miranda Parham, Mary Parham, Aleyna Harbour; seventeen great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, John Paul Purvis & wife, Jan, Mary Alice Fisher & husband, Billy, sisters, Johnie Byrd Thomas, Sandra Sailer; numerous nieces, nephew and other relatives and a host of friends. Cleo enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the United States Army and a long-term member and officer of the Corrigan VFW Post #6521. He was nicknamed “The Governor” by his plywood friends and work colleagues and the family quickly adopted it because it suited him. Cleo graduated from Corrigan High School in 1955 and attended SFA College. Services for Cleo are scheduled for Monday, June 19, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Corrigan Family Life Center, 103 N. Collins Street, Corrigan, Texas with Brother Leslie Wilkinson officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 18, 2017 from 6:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Corrigan Family Life Center. Interment will follow at the Stryker Cemetery in Corrigan, Texas. Pallbearers: Roger Gay, Brad Purvis, Brette Ratliff, Donnie Harris, Billy Sam Locke, Hector Duran.
