Vernon Markwood Bearss, Born December 3l, 1916 in Tampa, Florida, died Sunday, December 10,2006 at Timberwood Rehabilation Center in Livingston, Texas. Mr. Bearss was 89 years old. Funeral services were held at Pace Funeral Home, Wednesday, December 13, 2006 with Rev. Mitchell Murphy and Rev. Shelton Easley officiating. Interment followed at Magnolia Hill Cemetery in Segno. Vernon Bearss retired after a lifetime as an auto mechanic. During his retirement he played an active role in the community, working as cemetery caretaker at Big Sandy Cemetery and serving as deacon at Magnolia Hill Baptist Church. Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, Bishop M. Bearss and Lula Strickland Bearss of Florida, his first wife Eleanor V. Bearss, one son Robert V. Butch: Bearss of Livingston, one daughter, Barbara Gail Best of Kentucky, one brother, Harold Bearss of Tampa Florida, One sister, Teresa Baker of California and one granddaughter, Teresa Gail Gibbs and one great-grandson. He is survived by his wife, Birdie Mae Overstreet Bearss of Segno, his daughter Vernette Oxner and husband Larry, of Montgomery, Texas. His sisters Mary Corll of Trinity and Arla Collier of Tennessee, his stepdaughter, Diana Robinson and husband Thomas, of Cypress, nine grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Forrest Brackin, T.H. Bailey, Robert Hambrick, Kris Overstreet, Curtis Dorman and James Cobb. Honorary pallbearers are Roland Cain, BoTolar, Jackie Wideman, Zack Kuritz and Freddy Bluecher.
