Obituary

Patricia DeLeon Wheeler

April 20, 1935 to June 20 , 2009 Patricia DeLeon Wheeler was born on the DeLeon ranch in Victoria, Texas to Sylvester Felix DeLeon and Aurelia Chapa DeLeon. Heir of the famous aristocratic Spanish settler Empresario Don Martin DeLeon that was granted the DeLeon Colony by the king of Spain in the early 1800s. The DeLeon family founded Victoria, Texas and introduced to Texas many of the ranching, farming, and banking techniques still in use today, as well as, the first Spanish Catholic missions in south Texas. Preceded in death by her parents and sister Gloria, Patricia leaves behind her husband of 38 years, Darryl Wheeler of Livingston, Texas, three children and their families James and Robin Carpenter, Gay and Larry Ruggiano, and Mark Carpenter all residing in Austin and grandchildren James, Elizabeth, Stephen, Allison and Ashley Carpenter; Justin, Nicole, and Brian Ruggiano, and Natalie Carpenter, as well as, her bonus children by marriage William Wheeler, Thomas Wheeler, Suzanne Gevelinger, Joanne May, and Kevin Wheeler and their families most of which reside in Wisconsin. In all, she enjoyed 22 grandchildren and 1 great grandson and considered them each a blessing. Patricia was a fun loving devoted mother and wife who never met a stranger and always had a smile and room at her table for anyone who just happened to be there at supper time. She worked as a ticket agent for Texas International then Continental Airlines for 20 years where she built many dear friendships. She never had an unkind word to say of anyone and devoted much time to the kitchen brigade at the St. Ann Catholic Church in Coppell, Texas and Catholic Charities Thrift Shop, helping others in need. She showed us all how to love unconditionally and we take comfort in knowing that she is rejoicing with her Savior, Jesus Christ and all the saints in heaven. Rest in peace with our love forever in your heart. "Darryl and family, I worked with Pat at DFW and IAH and what a fun loving girl she was. I have always treasured her friendship although we lost touch throughout the years. My deepest sympathy to all of you. May God bless you."

"Gay...
You are in my thoughts and prayers. It has been ages ago that your mother graced Seadrift, Texas with her presence and beauty. I have fond memories of the times when you would come to the Rasmussens and spend vacation time during the summer. We had some good times. In viewing the video, your family has grown in number, just as mine has. What a blessing May God extend his hand to lift you through this ordeal and bless you and your family in many more ways."
