A.J., 80, longtime resident of Lake Livingston Estates 1, died Thursday afternoon at Lufkin Memorial Hospital from cancer. He married his wife Betty Jean on December 22, 1985 then retired from Cameron Iron Works in 1990 after nearly 47 years and had only missed 4 days due to illness. His retirement was well earned and well spent. The last 18 years being some of the happiest days of his life in the community he so loved. He was the go-to guy in the neighborhood to get something fixed, find a 38 fine thread bolt or air-up a bicycle tire. He was a fixture in the neighborhood, always ready with a big smile and a wave as he rode by on his bicycle, showing off the latest monster catfish he caught or delivering his latest woodworking project to it's intended recipient. The Mayor will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Betty Jean, brother Raymond of Livingston, TX, his son Joshua Glenn and daughter-in-law Jeannie of Ft Worth, his daughter Donna Bounds and grandson Michael Carrell of Houston. Step daughters Ramona Willis, Linda Mikowski, Brenda Ellington and step son David White.
The Memorial Viewing will be at Pace Funeral Home in Livingston, TX near the intersection of 190 and FM 350, next to the large church 936-967-3711. The viewing will start for the family Wednesday November 5th at 4pm and general viewing from 5pm to 8pm. For those who know A.J., he was not a suit and tie sort of person therefore the family requests casual dress and the louder the Hawaiian shirt or colorful clothing, the better.
There will be a Life Celebration at the Lake Livingston Estates 1 boat ramp park on Saturday, November 8, 2008 from 2pm until 5pm. This is where friends and family can gather to remember him and celebrate his life in the casual and informal way he lived his life. In case of bad weather the event will be moved to the carporthouse.
