Alton Leon Travis, age 76, of Onalaska, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026.

Alton was born on June 12, 1949, in Greensburg, Louisiana, to Buddy and Bessie Travis. He lived in Baytown, Texas for many years before retiring and moving to Onalaska, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buddy Travis and Bessie Maxwell, his three brothers, Richard Travis, Lidge Travis, and J.D. Travis; and his nephew, Darryl Travis.

He is survived by his cousin Shirley Hagan Landers, his sister-in-law, Bonnie Travis; two nieces, Jaime Herrington and husband Jason, and Alicia Collier and husband Kenneth; and his great-nephews, James Austin Travis, Brant Capps, and Chance Collier.

After returning home, he worked for many years at the San Jacinto Inn until it closed. He later became a painter for the Goose Creek School District Maintenance Department, where he retired from.

After retirement, Alton moved to Onalaska, where he spent his time fishing and enjoying life with his older brother, Lidge. Many days were spent on the water fishing on Lake Livingston. Alton loved his family deeply and loved Jesus even more. He never hesitated to show up when someone needed help and was always willing to lend a hand. He will be remembered for his steady presence, kind heart, and his funnyâ€"yet seriousâ€"sense of humor.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at Cedar Crest Cemetery in Baytown, Texas, with Pastor Luke Trice officiating.
