Hilda Marie Martin
January 31, 1931 - October 6, 2012

Hilda Marie Martin, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on October 6, 2012 in Livingston, Texas. Marie was born on January 31,1931 in Rosanky, Texas, the daughter of Robert Albert Murphy and Willie Mae Horton Murphy. Marie graduated from Smithville High School in the class of 1948. Soon after graduation from high school, Marie married William Jacobson, and they had two girls, Janice and Katherine. William was killed in an auto accident in April 1953. In January of 1958, Marie became the loving wife of Jerry Glenn Martin, and they have shared over fiftyfour wonderful years together. Jerry was a member of the U.S. Air Force, and as a military wife, she traveled a lot, living in France, Italy, and several different places in the states.
Maries lifelong dream was to become a nurse, and after several years of study and work, she graduated from Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas with her degree as a registered nurse. She worked for several years in the emergency room of Spohn Hospital in Kingsville, Texas. After moving to Livingston in 1993, she worked at the old Livingston Memorial Hospital in the emergency room.
Marie and Jerry moved to Livingston from Kingsville, Texas, and built their home on the lake so Marie could fish. She and her dog Molly would be on the pier all night when the fish were biting.
Marie and Jerry are members of First United Methodist Church of Goodrich where she enjoyed the worship and rich fellowship of the members. She loved the gatherings with her extended church family and playing bridge at church on Thursday mornings. Marie loved giving back to the community by volunteering at the Polk County Mission. She was a member of the Polk County Republican Club and attended four Texas State Republican Conventions. She was a member of the Livingston chapter of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father and two brothers, Ben Murphy and Charles Ray Murphy. She is survived by her husband, Jerry, and five children: Janice Martin, Katherine Watson, Rebecca Martin, Jerry Martin Jr. and wife Jan, Lisa Fitzgerald and her husband Denny, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and her brother Lloyd Murphy.
There will be a Memorial Service in celebration of her life at the First Methodist Church Goodrich, Texas at 10:30 AM on Friday, Oct 12, 2012.
In lieu of flowers, Maries family request that donations be made in her name to the Polk County Mission, First United Methodist Church of Goodrich or a charity of your choice. Pace Funeral Home is in charge of services. To sign the guestbook go to www.pacefuneral.com
