Ed Rowland, formerly of Longmont, died June 1, 2010 in Lufkin, Texas.

He was born February 29, 1930 in Ochelata, Oklahoma. In the 1930s, Eds fathers job with Phillips 66 moved the family to Odessa, Texas. Ed played on Odessa High Schools Texas State High School Championship Team in 1946.

He was later an AllAmerican Tackle at University of Oklahoma, playing on the 1951 National Championship Team and graduating in 1952 with a degree in Industrial Arts. Ed later earned his MS in Vocational and Educational Guidance at OU in 1959.

He honorably served in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Major in 1973 and receiving the Bronze Star for his service. Ed served in Vietnam.

Ed gave his life to the Lord while in college. Then, in 1973, Ed experienced a renewal of his faith and became a fully committed follower of Christ for the rest of his life. He was a committed member of Rocky Mountain Christian Church.

He was a man of many talents at various times Ed was a soldier, a professional football player for the Cleveland Browns, a coach, teacher, guidance counselor, principal and small business owner. He lived in Longmont for 17 years and retired from Longmont Junior High School in 1992. Ed was a member of the National Ski Patrol. He will be remembered as a beloved husband and father, respected leader and teacher and an outstanding athlete. He was faithful, loyal, patient and devoted to his family. He loved football, fishing, skiing, camping, traveling, teaching, working with kids and coaching. His favorite places were Alaska and Colorado. He also enjoyed working with his hands while woodworking and working on cars and small engines.

Ed is survived by his wife of 56 years, Peggy two sons, Clay and wife Elizabeth and Kevin and wife Julie a daughter, Jan Feller and husband Kevin grandchildren Tacy and Janie.

A Celebration of Eds life was held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 5, 2010, at the Escapees Care Center in Livingston, TX.

Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at Rocky Mountain Christian Church. Interment will be at 2:15PM Wednesday June 9 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, meet at Staging Area C. Memorial Contributions should be sent to The Salvation Army.
